Summer 2020 may be radically different than what we’re used to, but our library is still offering a great Summer Reading program for all ages just like every year! If you haven’t had a chance to yet, check out our Summer Reading page. It’s free and easy to register. Adults can enter raffles for a grand prize drawing by writing short reviews of the books you read (or listen to) and use them as entry forms. Grand prizes include gift cards to local bookstores and restaurants. Every week we also give away a smaller weekly prize (a gift card to Coffee Tree Roasters coffee shop that’s good for curbside pickup orders) so make sure you register and enter often! We have lots of fun free programs that involve reading, crafting, and a variety of other topics. You can also share what you’re reading this Summer and look through our Summer book lists. If you want some good recommendations from a librarian, you can even fill out this form and get personalized recommendations sent right to your email! You have until August 7th to participate and our grand prize winners will be contacted afterwards.
It’s my pleasure to mention two upcoming virtual library programs. On Tuesday, July 7th at 5:30 PM, presenter Glenn Flickinger returns with another Citizen Soldiers lecture. This year marks the 75th Commemoration of the End of World War II; a war that took the lives of over 405,000 U.S. military personnel. Join us to share the memoirs and stories of our soldiers, sailors, marines, and airmen in WWII. This session’s topic will be "The Strategic Air War Over Europe & the Mighty Eighth" and the suggested reading is: A Higher Call by Adam Makos. The books for each session are just a suggestion, participants do not need to read each session's books to attend. You can register for his lecture here.
For the entire month of July we have a special series on plant based nutrition. Mary Jo Costello, a registered dietitian, has generously offered nutritional programming at the library for several years. She will lead a five week 1 hour long virtual Food for Thought series every Friday in July from 7:00 PM - 8:00 PM. Registrants are encouraged to attend the entire series as each session will not have individual registration (rather you should register for the first session and plan on attending them all since lectures will build upon material from previous lectures). She will cover such topics as: whole food plant based nutrition, nutrition and your biometrics, weight: beyond calories, buttoning up your immune system, and lifestyle optimization.
