Contemporary Craft Weaving Project and CreativeBug Classes

Every year, we are fortunate to have programs provided by the Creative Aging Program, part of the outreach efforts of Contemporary Craft. The project “recognizes that the creative process can be as vital at the end of life as in early childhood and helps to restore a sense of beauty, dignity, and celebration” to older adults. Through this grant funded project, Contemporary Craft has provided our older adult library patrons with a resident art therapist to do hands-on craft projects. Several of these artists have become regular presenters for us. Contemporary Craft recently moved from its home in the Strip District to Lawrenceville, but had to postpone their Grand Opening Gala and Grand Opening because of the quarantine.

However, they are still helping us to keep the creative juices flowing through their blog, online resource page and weekly Show & Tell Zoom meetings. Here’s a simple weaving video from Contemporary Craft artist Grace Kubilius using things found around the house. Give it a try!

If you want to do more with weaving, check out the CreativeBug class on Weaving for Beginnners. CreativeBug is a database you can use with your Mt. Lebanon Public Library card. Enter through the portal on our website, or click on this link: https://www.creativebug.com/lib/mtlebanonlibrary. After you get access with your card number, you will be asked to create a personal login which saves your classes, let’s you resume where you left off and keeps track of classes in which you are interested.
